Gyroscope

At our last meeting, we talked about Gyroscopes and we watched this video.  A gyroscope is defined by Encyclopedia Brittanica as "a spinning wheel mounted in such a way that it is free to turn about any of three possible axes."  It's like a supertop.  Once you set it in motion, it just keeps on going, and it's very hard to knock over.  In fact, if you try to push it over, it stubbornly holds it original position, continuing to spin in the same direction.

Gyroscopes are more than scientific spin toys; they have numerous practical applications as well.  They stabilize our planes in turbulent weather, steady our ships as they sail through raging seas, and guide them automatically by their compasses.

What a picture of the life we are to have in Christ!  As we surrender to the Lord Jesus, as we center ourselves in him, something wonderful happens.  He turns the spinning circles of our chaotic lives into a steady, stable gyroscope mounted and held up by him alone.

He stablizes us in the turbulence of life.  He steadies us in the midst of raging seas, and he guides us by the compass of his eternal love.
